Quinlan drawing interest

From Robb Quinlan’s camp comes word the Angels’ versatile infielder/outfielder, entering free agency for the first time, has attracted preliminary inquiries from two National League clubs and one from the American League.

Quinlan, who will be 33 next season, has seen his numbers and at-bats gradually taper off since 2006 when he batted .321 with a career-high 234 at-bats. He’s a solid citizen, never complaining about getting lost in the Angels’ talent shuffle, and capable of handling the glove at all four corner positions.

Quinlan is best suited for the NL, where benches are of more value, but he also could be a nice role player for his hometown Twins as they move into their new ballpark. A career .281 hitter, he batted .243 in ’09 with only 115 at-bats, losing playing time when first baseman Kendry Morales showed in the second half that he was a threat against lefties.

I would love to see Quinlan get a shot at a starting job with a smaller market team. The man can flat hit. Anytime in the past he got a block of consistent at bats he shined. With the Angels he has had the toughest job in baseball… coming off the bench once a week or two and being asked to find a rhythm. Good luck to the mighty Quinn.

I think Rob is going to surprise the fans, wherever he goes. No, he wont be a high profile signing. But I predict he will hit near .300 (or better) if he gets at least 300 ABs. Couple that with his, uh, uncharacteristic running style and his all-out attitude in the field and he will be a fan fav.

He’s waited long enough for a starting opportunity. Good luck, Duck!!!

If “Q” doesn’t return to Anaheim, I’d like to see him play for his hometown Twins. He has an older brother Tom who played briefly in the majors with the Blue Jays, Phillies and Twins.

And when Robb is done with his playing days, I hope the Angels find a minor league coaching job for him. He’s a real asset to any organization.

This is a bit off-topic, but I just heard the terrible news that Los Angeles Angels broadcasters Rex Hudler and Steve Physioc have been released by Fox Sports West. It’s a horrible mistake releasing these two excellent broadcasters. They make baseball FUN. They’re insightful, friendly and one of us. Contrast that to a Saturday watching MLB on Fox with Eric Karros – it’s like listening to the play-by-play of a Kremlin funeral.

I wish Fox and the Angels would re-consider, but I am cynical that this would accomplish anything. Angels fans, and baseball fans at large deserve better. Steve and Rex will be deeply missed.

    Who next – Vin Scully?

Kendry Morales to play 3rd and hopefully go for a trade that brings Adrian Gonzales to cover the first base hes got a powerful swing can hit more than 40 homeruns a season and also a great glove , i think Morales has tremendous power too and he become more versatil at the 3rd bag because of his great reflex and leg work , also Jeff Mathis should be the evreyday catcher as we saw in the post season he closed for the angels and option Napoli for a trade to bring A-Gon.
